What we do

Through the medium of creative music making the Major Music project works with young people aged 11 – 25 years although the majority of members are aged up to 18 years of age. (The Minor Music project works with a younger age group – aged 8 to 11 years). The project operates an open door policy and is accessed by both male and female members who pay an annual subscription to become a member. The weekly workshops gives young people the opportunity of mixing with others with similar interests and is seen as improving confidence, self esteem and for those older members improving employment and/or training prospects. (A number of young people who have attended the project have gone on to further education and/or training in the music or allied professions).

The workshops are supervised by a number of volunteers and sessional staff. A number of the older and ex-members also mentor and tutor those younger and less experienced members. Although the project is based in Llantwit Major other young people from across the Vale can access the project. Young people from the project are also given the opportunity to pass on their skills and expertise to other projects across the Vale.
